Appendices — Global Reference

Use these appendices as lookup material for the whole AZM book series.

The books should still be read in order when you are learning from scratch. The appendices are not another teaching volume. They are the tables and reference pages you flip back to when you need a quick answer.

Appendix Table

App File What it is for
1 Numbers, Notation, and ASCII Hex, binary, decimal, common landmarks, and 7-bit ASCII
2 Registers, Flags, and Conditions Register roles, flag meanings, and branch condition codes
3 Addressing, Prefixes, and Instruction Forms Addressing shapes, prefix families, and quick instruction-form tables
4 Classic Z80 Instruction Support Table Searchable reference for standard and classic-undocumented Z80 instructions

Scope

These appendices are course-wide. They are meant to help with:

  • fast lookup while reading any AZM book
  • checking a mnemonic or operand form without leaving the book
  • remembering the small exceptions the Z80 instruction set is full of

The last appendix is intentionally searchable by mnemonic. It is not a cycle-count reference and it is not a dump of every emulator- or firmware- specific opcode alias. It is a course-side reference for the classic Z80 instruction set, including the undocumented forms that are commonly treated as part of that classic machine model.
